Baccarat is famously the game of choice for many high rollers. If you get behind the velvet ropes of most VIP areas in the big casinos in Las Vegas, Macau, Monaco and Macao, you’ll see alot of baccarat tables. And why is that? Well, it all comes down to the house edge on this game, which is one of the lowest in the house. Try our Playtech baccarat game which is very fast and has a multiplayer option where you can chat with other players, or try this free baccarat game from Microgaming.
Legendary baccarat high rollers such as Kerry Packer (who is no longer with us) used to bet big on this game and employ a “Hit and Run” strategy- ie he’d try and quit early after big wins. It really comes down to a test of nerves between the casino management and the players. Casinos love these high rollers and they bet such fantastically high sums, but if they get it wrong, one session can have the management contacting the stock market to phone in a profit warning.
Baccarat Tips
Aces have a vlaue of one. Cards 2 through 9 have the same value as their face value; tens and picture cards (J, Q, K) have ZERO value. If the value of your hand above ten, you need to take 10 off, and the difference is the baccarat score of your hand. For example: 5+8=13=3 and 1+9=10=0
How do you pronounce Baccarat?
You don´t pronounce the “t”, ie “bakara”, rather than bakarat.
Natural Nine
The best hand in baccarat is a two 2 card hand that sums up to nine, (known as a Natural Nine).
If any player, including the banker, has a Natual Nine then the others cannot draw a 3rd card – the person (or banker) with the natural nine will win: the exception to this is when there is a tie between 2 players in which case the game is made void.
Where there are no “Naturals” then punters decide whether to bet on or fold.
