£2 Saving on Euromillions Cost Lottery Player £109 million

Posted on June 13th, 2012

Oh no. No no no, noddy no.

I have just read about this guy who must be the unluckiest man on the planet this month. A Euromillions lottery player who normally buys 3 lines, bought 2 lines to save £2 and ended up missing out on a £109 million jackpot. This story makes you feel a bit sick in the stomach. Poor guy.

Carl Nordmann could only afford to buy two of his three regular £2 lines on the Euromillions last week. And he was left gutted when his usual 5 picks and two lucky stars landed in last Tuesday’s draw.

The winning ticket would have netted the IBM factory worker over £109 million. Ouch.

The penny didn’t drop (or rather the wads of cash didn’t drop) for the father of 3  until he checked the lotto result 3 days later.

Mr Nordmann, from Greenock, in Renfrewshire said “I just could not believe my eyes when I saw those numbers on screen. My wife and I cried.”

Earlier on in the year another Euromillions player Hazel Loveday just missed out on a big pay out when she pulled out of a lotery syndicate at work just before they won a £38 million Euromillions jackpot.

The single mum dipped out of the £2-a-week syndicate, which would have netted her  over £3,000,000 when the numbers hit.

I guess the moral of the story is, if you are going to do the same numbers every week, or you are in a syndicate, either keep up the payments or stop completely and don’t check the numbers. This become more difficult I suppose, if your ex friends are sending you photos of themselves sipping Margharitas by the pool in Barbados with Simon Cowell.

And talking of the Euromillions, has anyone bumped into the Brit who scooped the £63.8m share of EuroMillions jackpot the other day?

That was the fifth highest EuroMillions prize ever won by anyone from the UK. Where is the winner?

Nobody has come forward to claim the £63.8 million share of the EuroMillions prize. Check under your sofa for the ticket, for gawd’s sake!
The other winner holds a ticket bought in Belgium.
This win is in the same league as Colin and Chris Weir, from Largs, North Ayrshire, who won £161million last summer.
Other people who are currently sipping cocktails on a tropical beach include a ticketholder who bagged £113,019,926 in October 2010 and Dave & Angela Dawes from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, who won £101,203,600 last October.

The exact amount won by the mystery UK ticketholder was £63,837,543.60.

Is there on thing worse than not winning because you didn’t buy a £2 ticket? Well, how about actually winning and then not claiming your prize in time?

Do you know how long you have to make that phonecall if you win? This is information you need to know, trust me. Commit this to memory, people.
All winning claims must be made within 180 days of the draw. If you miss this deadline, even by a single day, then you won’t be allowed to make your claim. Arghhhh! Get moving, £63 million winner. The clock is ticking!

Here are the latest unclaimed wins…..unbelievable!
