Aspers opened its doors in Stratford today- in the Westfield shoping centre, and is proving a big hit with punters with the first day betting numbers set to hit £500,000. Aspers Casino is now the UK’s biggest casino.
More than £500 grand is expected to be bet at tables and on slots today at Britain’s biggest and newest land-based casino.
Aspers Casino at the Westfield Stratford City shopping centre opened at 12 o’clock today. The 65,000 sq ft casino palace will be open 24 hours a day (except for Christmas Day).
Richard Noble,COO, said he reckoned about 5,000 people would come for a flutter on the opening day. Players are expected to wager around £100 each on average with winnings of about £80.
There will be 2 free draws on the first day, one at 5 pm and another at 1am, with prizes totalling around £10,000.
Maximum wins are £4,000 on the slots and £50,000 on the sports betting games, but are unlimited on the tables (roulette, blackjack, baccarat etc).
The casino will create around 440 jobs, with the majority being filled by Newham residents. It is the first “large” casino in the UK following the deregulation of the industry by Tony Blair’s government. It is the only one to get the green light in the capital.
There will be 150 slots (games from 1p up), 92 electronic gambling terminals, (eg video roulette), 8 sports betting terminals and a bingo game. AND there will be forty gaming tables.
The opening of Aspers in Stratford is another link in the chain to the completion of the Stratford City complex next to the Olympic Park. The £1.5 billion shopping complex, the biggest urban shopping mall in Europe, opened its door in mid-September.
Well, we’re going to have a “butchers” at this for sure. More reports in when we have tested in out in person!
