A player from Tanzania has been sentenced to 3 years in the clanger for cheating Marina Bay Sands casino of more than S$100,000. This is thought to be the largest sum involved in a Singpore casino cheating case.
35 year old tourist Lemburis Israel Kipuyo, who pleaded guilty at court, admitted that he had gone into the Marina Bay Sand Casino at about 2am on May 20 this year and headed to a roulette table, and indulged in what is know in the trade as “Past posting”. He put a S$1,000 chip on the winning number after the result was revealed.
The dealer handed over casino chips worth S$35,000 (25-1 payout, single number).
He repeated the scam 3 other times at different tables throughout the day.
Kipuyo was caught out just past 4 pm when a dealer noticed a S$1,000 chip at her table that she had not seen earlier.
She notified the pit boss who then requested a CCTV replay of the game played at the table.
The video tape showed Kipuyo past posting his roulette bet after the result was announced.
A manager at theMarina Bay Sands Casino phoned the police and Kipuyo was nicked.
The maximum jail sentence in Singapore for casino fraud is ten years’ jail plus a fine.
