Kevin Spacey is one of our favourite actors. OK, OK, we are not a film review site, but his latest movie: “Casino Jack”, has got the word “casino” in it, so we’re going to take that as an excuse to blog about it!
The film begins with one of those classic Kevin Spacey monologues- he stares into a bathroom mirror and delivers a scene that sets the pace for the rest of the film. Virtuoso.
Spacey plays disgraced Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff who, along with business partner Michael Scanlon — (Barry Pepper) — have been milking the American Indian tribes whose gaming interests they represent on Capitol Hill. Graham Greene plays Bernie Sprague, a tribal council member who is on to Abramoff and Scanlon’s double game.
“Casino Jack” paints a picture of a driven, power-obsessed nest featherer and his “evil sidekick” working in a murky political world. He skimmed and skimmed until, in 2006, he was sentenced to prison for fraud and corruption. He was freed earlier this month, in time for the opening of Hickenlooper’s film.
Last week, Spacey was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance.
But take it from us, Spacey isn’t the only actor doing great stuff here.
Casino Jack was directed by George Hickenlooper & written by Norman Snider. Starring Kevin Spacey, Barry Pepper, Kelly Preston, Rachelle Lefevre, Jon Lovitz, Maury Chaykin, Graham Greene.
