In a raid reminiscent of Ocean’s Eleven, the casino heist movie, $500,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from an Atlantic City casino yesterday. The robbery took place at night, and the unarmed criminals took off in a getaway car- it was an Old Skool smash-and-grab heist.
Atlantic City Police are hunting down the men in connection to the crime which took place at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa.
The men waltzed into the store, stole the jewelry and escaped in a waiting getaway car, police said.
The Borgata, opened for business in 2003, and sports 2,000-rooms, 4 nightclubs, a concert venue, a theater, restaurants and 11 shops.
Atlantic City Police Sgt. Monica McMenamin explained that Borgata security contacted them at about 8:45 p.m. on Monday evening to report the theft. The cops say 3 men sprinted out of the store before putting the pedal to the metal in a dark coloured vehicle. No one has been nicked yet, but the police are hoping to aprehend some suspects shortly.
