This is an archived review of the Fantastic Four Slot which was discontinued by Playtech.

The Fantastic Four slot sits was in Playtech’s Marvel Slots range which included the Incredible Hulk Slot, and Iron Man 2 slot.

Unlike their Great Blue slot machine, which sits firmly in the high variance camp (the Marilyn Monroe Slot is another), this game was somewhat less volatile- we’d say it was medium variance (there’s nothing like sitting on the fence). Which means that you saw a fair amount of action (not too many dry periods), but with a chance of getting some nice runs in the free spins round.

The Fantastic Four slot machine was a favourite of ours- it had just the right balance on the entertainment front. You could notch up some pretty decent wins in the base game with the Wilds (Fantastic Four symbol),  but what floated our boat was the free spins round (you needed 3 or more blue planet Earth symbols). There was some innovative stuff in here more akin to some of Microgaming’s 243 Ways to Win slots (eg the Game Thrones slot machine) and some of the better Net Ent slots we have come across.

Once you were in (with 3 planet Earth scatter symbols), you got 12 free spins- no big news there. But, the middle reel could show blocks of the Fantastic 4 characters. When one of these filled the reel – which happened quite a lot, you got more spins- kind of like a retrigger-  3 or 4 extra spins came your way, and they all had their own features depending on which character was filling the wheel- expanding wilds, increasing multipliers, sticky wilds and wild reels. Lots of goodies, and lots of action in other words!  END

Once you were into the Free Spins bonus, a hero covering all the reels triggered an extra Fantastic Feature. You couldn’t  retrigger the free spins with more scatters though (shame eh?!)

Summary
The Fantastic Four slot managed to achieve the delicate balance between entertainment (frequency of wins) and chunky payouts. It was our favourite Marvel slot.
